Jackknifed truck at Pit River Bridge in Bieber

Snow and freezing rain and icy roads claimed another victim Friday evening about 6 PM when a big rig heading Westtbound jacknifed just West of the Pit River Bridge. The driver received minor injuries and complained of back pain. The driver was transported to Mayers Memorial in Fall River Mills by ambulance.
The accident occured just West of the Pit River and developed a diesel fuel leak. About 75 gallons were originally reported to go into the river but quick work by the Bieber Volunteer Fire Dept. in digging a ditch completely confined the fuel spill. None entered the river. Highway 299 was blocked both directions for hours although traffic could be directed around it. Fire and emergency personnel worked a long cold night directing traffic as a tow was long delayed due to the size of the rig. They were relieved by Pizza delivered courtesy of Moes Pizza around 9 PM. It was past 10:30 when the truck was finally towed away.
This spot of the highway, by the bridge has been the scene of several other accidents due to icy roads.
