The fire season hit hard Friday with the first lightning storm of the season. At about 3 PM, a fire started in the hills just west of Punkin Center and Bunselmeier Rd near Bieber.

Cal Fire (better known as C.D.F.) reported that the Punkin Center fire burned about 7 acres and was likely caused by lightning. In

the afternoon, the local Bieber Battalion responded to a total of 4 confirmed fires and one un-located fire.

The Punkin Center fire fortunately was easily accessible by road and was attacked by C.D.F. quickly and controlled by ground units and our local helicopter which did many water drops. Assistance was given by Bieber Fire Dept. and Adin who arrived on scene more than 1/2 hour after first dispatch.
