Dan Alcorn, the science teacher at Big Valley High School has won an award for excellence in science teaching from the Amgen Corporation. Amgen is a leading human therapeutics company in the biotechnology industry.

Amgen, a private corporation solicits names and selects science teachers in states where they do business to receive substantial rewards and recognition.  This year, Amgen will distribute a total of 19 awards in 7 states.  California gets 5 winners, Puerto Rico 4, Washington 2, Colorado 2, Kentucky 2, Rhode Island 2 and Massachusetts 2.

The award will be presented May 26 at the Amgen campus in Thousand Oaks CA.  It consists of $5000 which goes to Dan Alcorn and another $5000 which goes to the school as a restricted grant for science.
