Continuing a tradition of inviting local election candidates to debate and meet the public, the Big Valley Chamber of Commerce and the Big Valley Lions Club sponsored and moderated a candidates night in Bieber. The format was a similar format to that put on by the Big Valley Tea Party in Lookout. Lassen County had 2 offices with 2 candidates each this year. Mike Bollinger and Dean Growdon both showed up to debate their qualifications for Sheriff. Karen Fouch and Kurt Bonham were there as candidates for Auditor. Karen Fouch, Auditor and Robert Burns, District Attorney running uncontested also showed their faces.
Candidates night started with a short educational introduction where each person described the duties of the office to the audience. After this introduction, the formal debates started with both written questions from the audience of about 30 and one to one dialog.
Above average cookies and snacks were donated by the Chamber and the
Lions club which kept people nourished during the mingling which took
place after the debates. The debates were moderated by Rich Patak, editor of Big Valley News.
