A major fire broke out Thursday morning about 5:30 A.M. at Big Valley Power L.L.C. destroying two buildings and severely damaging structures including the conveyor belt which feeds fuel to the boilers.

The fire is under investigation but appears to be accidental.

This was a multi alarm fire with units responding from Bieber, Adin, Lookout, McArthur, local C.D.F. and a far away as Burney which supplied breathing air to the local fighters.  Lassen and Modoc County Sheriff's units also responded.

Damage was major and is expected to be a serious setback to the much looked forward to operation of the power plant.
