At 8:06 PM a Modoc ambulance transporting a woman and an infant with
minor injuries from a traffic accident near Lookout Dump Rd. called
Modoc County dispatch by radio with emergency traffic. They had
come on scene of a vehicle which hit a power pole and was fully
involved in flame.
Bieber Fire, CDF Fire Modoc Ambulance CHP and others responded to
the incident. The vehicle was unrecognizable until the fire was
extinguished and it could be identified as a white pickup truck.
As the pictures show, the vehicle was upside down and wrapped around a
power pole. The pole appeared not to be damaged but had been
burned.
A body was ejected from the vehicle and was located about 50 feet
from the vehicle.
It is unknown at this time if there was only one victim. I
will contact CHP to get more details as they are released.
Update Monday 8:00 AM:
The name of the victim, Robert Pauley, of Lookout, was
released on the CHP website early this morning.
Update Wednesday:
Robert Pauley was the recently retired Fire Chief of Lookout Fire Dept. and was known to hear the page for the accident involving the woman and infant mentioned above. He was responding to the incident in his private vehicle when his vehicle went out of
control and hit the power pole. Mr. Pauley was also the on site manager for Big Valley Power L.L.C, the electric co-generation plant in Bieber.
